Icon of St. Nicholas, Cyril and the Mother of God - Tempera on panel, 19th century.

We present an extremely rare icon that delights not only with its craftsmanship but also with its deep symbolism and unique representation of saints. This is an exceptional object for collectors of sacred art, lovers of Old Believers, and connoisseurs of 19th-century icon painting.

On the panel, using egg tempera technique, three figures are depicted. On the left side is Saint Nicholas, recognizable by his traditional bishop's attire. In the central part of the icon is the young Cyril (Saint Cyril), often depicted as a monk or scholar, holding a book – a symbol of wisdom and evangelical mission. On the right side, the artist placed the Mother of God (Ulijta), whose figure emanates peace and gentleness.

Special attention is drawn to the upper part of the icon, where the symbolic Eye of Providence is placed inside a triangle – a motif characteristic of Orthodox mysticism and a symbol of divine omniscience. The composition, subdued color palette, and characteristic modeling of faces and robes allow dating this object to the 19th century, and the style indicates its origin from Russia or the Balkans.

The icon has preserved the natural patina of age, which adds to its authenticity and collector's charm. It is not only an object of worship but also an important document of the history of Orthodox church art. Ideal for a private collection, as an element of interior decor, or as an inspiring gift for an antique lover.
