Mary holds the child Jesus on her left shoulder, where her right hand embraces him, which is a symbol that Jesus is the only way to salvation. The child has a serious expression on his face, and with his right hand blesses the viewer, making him realize that he is the savior. Their halos have been gilded, emphasizing their holiness. Above their heads spreads a dove, a symbol of the Holy Spirit in a radiant mandorla. Russian icons in the 19th century were objects of widespread veneration, often revered as guardians of the western borders of the country. The gold filling of the icon imitates floral motifs, flower buds, probably symbolizing Eden. Creating an icon is a rigorous craft and spiritual process, based on canons. After preparing the board and priming, the artist applies the pattern (podlinnik). Painting is done in layers, from dark to light tones, according to traditional rules of inverted perspective and color symbolism, as well as gilding. Its dimensions are approximately 60 cm by 40 cm.
