Political Satire Award 1981 - Art Deco Bee from Szpilki Weekly

We present an extremely rare and unique collector's item – an award received by the legendary Polish satirical weekly "Szpilki" in 1981. The object bears the Italian inscription "Premio Satira Politica" (Award for Political Satire), which gives it an international, artistic character and constitutes a fascinating witness of the late PRL era, when satire was an important weapon in the fight for freedom of speech.

The central motif of the graphic is a stylized insect figure – most likely a bee – divided along its axis into two contrasting halves. One side is light with distinct red stripes, the other dark, perhaps symbolizing the division between "us" and "them," characteristic of the opposition satire of the time. The composition refers to the geometric, aerodynamic forms of Art Deco, which were popular in Polish utilitarian poster art of the interwar period. This combination of the style of the 1920s and 1930s with the realities of the early 1980s gives the object a unique aesthetic depth.

The object is made of light metals (probably aluminum or zinc alloy), which is typical for medals and plaques from this period. Its dimensions and weight – a commemorative plaque – mean it will display perfectly in a frame, on a shelf in a display case, or as part of a collection of PRL memorabilia and Solidarity-related items. Due to its reference to the Art Deco style, it may also be an interesting addition to a collection of applied art and design.

This is not just an award – it is a symbolic object connecting the history of Polish satire, political opposition, and the artistic heritage of Art Deco. Ideal for collectors of "Szpilki" memorabilia, Varsovian enthusiasts, lovers of PRL applied graphics, and seekers of unique items with a story.
