Exceptionally old bronze mortar – Poland, 16th century
We present an extremely rare and exceptionally old bronze mortar, dated to the 16th century, originating from the territory of Poland. It is not only a tool with a rich history, but also a true treasure for collectors of militaria, antiquities, and Renaissance-era artifacts.
The mortar was cast from high-quality bronze, characteristic of 16th-century artillery craftsmanship. Its massive, cylindrical construction with a distinct protrusion at the base (the so-called foot) and a characteristic touch hole at the top is typical of hand-held siege and signal mortars. The surface shows traces of many years of use, including natural patina and small chips, which give it an authentic, historical character.
