Pocket stopwatch RAF - 1943, Air Ministry, military
We present an extremely rare and authentic military pocket stopwatch, used by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II. This is not only a precise timekeeping instrument, but above all a historical artifact from the time when the fight for air dominance decided the fate of Europe.
On the casing there is a characteristic engraving "A.M.", meaning Air Ministry, and the reference code "6B/221" – a technical specification used by navigators and bomber crews. The number "43" engraved on the bottom clearly indicates the year of production: 1943 – the peak period of air operations, including the Battle of Berlin and raids on the Third Reich.
This stopwatch was part of the standard navigational equipment in aircraft such as the Lancaster, Spitfire, and Halifax. Crews used it to measure time during combat flights, bombing raids, or celestial navigation. These models were often produced by Swiss manufacturers for the British Air Ministry.
Condition:
- The item is complete, retaining original elements – the case, dial, and crown.
- Requires mechanism restoration (the stopwatch is not functioning).
- For collectors and military history enthusiasts, it is ideal as a museum exhibit or a base for restoration.
